Scalp Extension

A scalp extension also called a scalp reduction is a procedure associated to hair transplants that very few people opt to get. However, sometimes for
one reason or another follicle unit hair transplants are not available to a person.

Scalp extensions take quite a bit more time to heal than other hair transplant procedures and can cause a little more scarring. First of all, a scalp
extension is exactly what it says. You will arrive at your doctor’s office and from there be given a local anesthetic. Once you are numbed up, the
doctor will cut your balding sections from your head and then stretch your scalp to piece together the sections on your scalp which still have hair.
Once they are pieced together, they will then be sewn together.

Step-by-step procedure tip:

The process as a whole starts with an extender that is placed under the scalp; it is left there for a month before it is taken out. During this time it
has started to slowly stretch the scalp. Once the month is up, the extender is taken out and the pieces of bald scalp are cut off and the rest of the
scalp is easily stretched to fit together and sewn up. It is a two month process.

It takes more time to heal from this surgery than a follicle unit surgery by a few weeks and can be more expensive. There are side effects such as
feeling tightness on the scalp that becomes very painful or even extreme headaches.

A scalp extension is only one hair transplant surgery and their several others. Follicle unit hair
transplants have been found to not only be the safest but to always have a quicker time frame of healing. All options should be looked into before
deciding on the one to go with.
